The National EMS Trauma Triage Decision Scheme
EDA:464-0310

Every day, EMS providers make crucial decisions that impact the lives of their patients. One critical decision is where to transport patients, particularly those who have sustained traumatic injuries. Research indicates that patients with traumatic injuries have a 25 percent lower death risk when taken to a Level I trauma center versus a non-trauma center. The decision of where to transport these patients should not be taken lightly. Fortunately, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) has updated the field triage guidelines to help EMS providers triage patients with the best option for survival. This course identifies and explains the updates made to the Field Triage Decision Scheme, originally developed in 2006.
